The Watsons go to Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis
I found this book to be interesting, although very simple. I liked the imagery though. It talked a lot about the differences between Michigan and places in the South. It was really good at describing the experiences from the perspective of an African-American family in the 1960s. This is so important to remember and think about with today's current events.
I think I will be scheduling this one for February for Black History Month. I may choose to make it January instead though, because of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I have a feeling that will be a sensitive day this school year.
